Cof Nefoedd County of Rhyddid of the Kingdom of Alesia
Cof Nefoedd Overview
Cof Nefoedd will be a theocratic county and predominately focused on the utilization of the land and the NPCs as well as adding to the lore of the world.
The goal of Cof Nefoedd is ultimately player engagement. To this end NPCs will be heavily utilized and encouraged so that they can be used as a labor force allowing PCs to focus on other activities.
Goals
Land Utilization
The first goal, utilization of the land I will be focusing on exploiting the natural resources of the territory. Come land selection my main focus will be on choosing fertile lands so that food can be easily acquired to feed a large populace.
To utilize the land to the fullest extent possible by goal will be to expand the infrastructure of the county. Expanding and developing roadways to encourage trade. Encouraging new settlements to develop around resources and larger more lore orientated projects like temples and civic buildings to as an economic stimulus.
NPC Utilization
NPCs are a resource like any other in Elyria. I, along side the mayors in my county, will be working to encourage NPC migration and growth. The backbone of Cof Nefoedd will be NPC labor. Farming the fields, processing raw materials into usable goods, any unskilled job that can be accomplished by NPCs allowing PCs to focus on skilled professions.
Player Engagement
Player Engagement is key, it is critical to the success of Elyria as a whole let alone a kingdom. To that end I plan on supporting new players via welcoming packages containing information they need to succeed and enjoy Elyria so that a new player becomes a regular player.
Repeatable and engaging quests or jobs will be necessary to allow new players to get a reliable foothold in our game.
However, new players are not the only focus of player engagement. Regular festivals and events will be set up inorder to encourage active participation on the part of players.
The last cornerstone of player engagement will be the lore.
Part of the exposition phase will be used to flesh out our county, to make statues dedicated to heroes and legends to develop a narrative depth. However, players will be writing their own stories with their actions and choices. I want to capture as much of that as I can and immortalize it. A lone player standing up against a horde of bandits should become a folk tale told by bards.
I plan on constructing a great Necropolis, a city of the dead, a place where players can visit and see the stories of their past lives and the lives of others immortalized for all time. A testament to the history we create in the world of Elyria.
Organization
Cof Nefoedd will be a theocratic county following the local religion of the land. The administration of the county will come from the ranks of the House of Crows, a branch of the Children of Mann, a benevolent cult focused on healing.
This is for thematic and mechanical effect. Being part of the same organization allows the sharing of communal resources to assist in administrative duties to the county. It is not a requirement, but is encouraged.
Lore:
The County of Cof Nefoedd was founded during the time of troubles. When the great empire of Xelias fractured the the people learned that blue blood bleeds the same as red.
The death of the Mad King did little to usher in an age of peace. The years that followed saw would-be kings fight over the corpse of the empire. Grain rotted in the fields before it could be harvested. Famines bled the once fertile kingdoms, disease felled both beast and Mann alike. Bandits followed like flies; leaderless soldiers with hungry stomachs and sharper swords.
Dark times brought desperation. The Crows had always been a part of the Church of Mann since time immemorial. They tended the graveyards of the churches but there were more dead than graves. Bodies rotted on battlefields, never to be interred, never to be remembered.
The Raven, the leader of the Crows made a sorrowful decree. Until the deceased of this land had been put to rest, the land would never heal. Until the sons and daughters of Xelias were brought to their final resting place the time of troubles would never end. But there were too many for the graveyards of old. Instead they would break tradition, the dead would be remembered as a community, the dead of the battlefields would be interred in a grand necropolis, a city of the dead.
It began slowly, stone by stone. Eventually a town grew around the necropolis. As the dead were removed from the battlefields fertile lands were revealed and the town became a city. As the dead were removed the beasts of the forests slunk back forgetting the taste of Mann and the roads became safer. At long last the land was healed. The Mother of the Church of Mann, appointed a duke by the new king of Alesia appointed the Crows as the caretakers of their county and it was renamed to Cof Nefoedd, Heaven's Memory in the tongue of old.
