Genetically modifying the tribes of man, to create 132 separate tribes?

There are 12 tribes, meaning 11 opportunities to cross breed. All you would need to do is get 132 men and 132 women, 11 from each tribe and then bring them together. Have each one mate with a different tribe until you have the 132 mixed children, and then do it again to get 1 male and 1 female of each, then force them to only breed with their match

Before you know it, 132 races of man will be in Elyria

What do you think?.

Doing it over and over again will result in increasing numbers of variants. At some point the distinctions become meaningless, except for role-playing racism. The notion of tribe will also be in the process of erosion by the time of game launch, as crossbreeding will already have been occurring in the centers of political interest for generations.

I prefer to keep the notion of 12 tribes, with infinitely many possible variations. For those who want to split hereditary hairs (or heirs, for that matter), feel free to go for it, but realize that it's your choice and not the game's built-in lore or mechanics that are doing it.

Each offspring of a pair will only carry a portion of the traits of their parents, not all the traits.

We have no clue how many traits there are for each tribe. And we will need a huge number of offspring to get all the possible traits combination.

I have made a thread a while back, precisely on what you brought up : )

Maybe mixing every tribe makes something interesting happen??

A tribe isn't necessarily formed by genetics alone, a tribe is a socially, ethnic, or politically cohesive group. The Elyrian tribes are ethnic groups which are distinct by their racial (genetic) consistency (relatively that is, as there are bound to be variations and mutations within that pool), religious preference, and cultural foundation. Even if you manage to breed hybrids of a similar dual background into a larger genetically consistent group then that still doesn't necessarily make them distinct enough to be recognized as a tribe of their own. You can certainly roleplay the beginnings of a new tribe, but there is no reason for the game to have mechanics to officially recognize them as one.

Everyone is assuming that the breeding of various tribes will enhance the unique characteristics of each tribe involved.

We know that you will get some genetic material from Parent A and some from Parent B.

But what parts are you most likely to get?

Are the variations what is dominant?

Or are they the result of two recessive genetic combinations?

So using your example, could you also possibly get just one tribe that has the least common denominator of genetic traits between the various sub-tribes, as many of them all descended from a single Proto-Neran ancestry pool?

In essence, would you then be reverse engineering a homogeneous "Base Elyrian" if those base traits are the dominate characteristics that override the variations that produced the 12 tribes in the first place?

Not that this would make for a lot of fun for those expecting the opposite result, but it is theoretically possible...

I think you just wound up with a Neran tribe.

It would be quite disheartening to end up with all negative traits.

That was a good thread. People interested in this topic should definitely check it out.
