Recipes Using Rare Materials

Blued Dowsing Rods

This pair of dowsing rods are made from an unusual, blue metal that is always cool to the touch. A thin coating of a clear lacquer or enamel covers the tips at one end of each rod while the "handle" of each rod is wrapped in the mottled hide of some aquatic creature. Maybe it's coincidence, but they seem to be remarkably good at finding sources of water.

Rare ingredients:

  • Blue Ferrum
  • Leatherfish
  • Pinebuck Acid

Collapsible Pillow

This pillow can be deformed in almost any way possible: you can mash it into a ball and put it in a pouch and you can squash it flat and put it in the bottom of a backpack. No matter how you abuse it, if left alone in the air, it restores itself to its original fluffy shape, making it the perfect pillow for a traveler or explorer. Enhances the fatigue-restoring value of sleep in the wilds.

Rare ingredients:

  • Cloud Fungus
  • Brandwort
  • Highland Amber

Gumputty

Combines the extracts of several common and rare plants to create a pliable, watertight sealant. Can be made using only mortar and pestle, even on the go. Can also be applied to one's shoes to protect from cold and damp.

Rare ingredients:

  • Cloud Fungus
  • Rock Fruit
  • Bone Grass

Insulated Bag

Made from the thick, but somehow smooth and yielding, hide of an aquatic creature, this bag seems to prevent the outside environment from affecting its contents, keeping them cool and delaying spoilage of food items kept inside for some time. As an added bonus, it seems to be completely water-proof.

Rare ingredients:

  • Leatherfish
  • Blue Ferrum
  • Rock Fruit

Portable Hearth

Made of a blued metal alloy, and treated with some form of clear enamel, this collapsible device unfolds into proper cooking surface that, when placed around a small campfire, provides relief from fatigue, homeostasis, and exposure within 1 meter, as well as improves satiation of food cooked on it.

Rare ingredients:

  • Blue Ferrum
  • Rock Fruit
  • Highland Amber

Pyqish Ranger Reed

A hollow, bamboo-like reed packed with a mixture of saps and lichen. When "planted" into the ground, nearby vegetation rapidly accelerate their regrowth cycle, allowing fruits, vegetables, and leaves to be re-harvested sooner than normal.

Rare ingredients:

  • Cloud Fungus
  • Pinebuck Acid
  • Rose Blood

Trekker's Tonic

Brewed using the petals of a flowering plant found in the Taiga as its base, this dark red tonic is slightly bitter, yet also sweet, with an earthy undertone. The Brudvir prize this tonic for its ability to energize and revitalize a warrior on a long hunt through the forests of the Taiga. The perfect pick-me-up when fatigue is becoming overwhelming, Traveler's Tonic reduces the gain of fatigue and increases the rate of energy gain while its effects last. It also reduces overall fatigue by a small amount when first imbibed.

Rare ingredients:

  • Rose Blood
  • Brandwort
  • Sweetroot Flowers

Weather Goggles

A leather mask whose eyelets hold sealed, crystal lenses that glimmer with the colors of the rainbow when turned in the light. It is almost impossible to scratch the lenses. Increases view distance in hazardous weather (+10%, max of 100%)

Rare ingredients:

  • Bone Grass
  • Cyizen Crystal
  • Keepwind

Rare Materials

Blue Ferrum

A cerulean blue ore stone that produces a rare form of iron that is blue when cooled and tempered. Said to come from the ocean itself.

Bone Grass

A type of grass found rarely in the various grassland biomes, these rigid grasses grow up to a meter high and finger-width in diameter in small, dense colonies. The grass is hollow, with the outer shell almost like stone. In the wind, it is said to make an eerie sound like bones rattling. Used in a variety of alchemical recipes and agriculture for its basic properties (similar to limestone). Can also be used raw as something akin to chalk.

Brandwort

A plant with broad, spear-shaped leaves that grows in the Altimontane-Subalpine elevation. Has medicinal properties as a fever reducer and antiseptic, though inflicts minor burn wounds. Sometimes used in food and alcohol to provide a pleasant heat.

Cloud Fungus

A large, lumpy, ovoid fungus that is white and has very cushiony properties. A sought-after ingredient for pillows and seat cushions, especially for carriages! Grows only at the top of massive trees and only in conditions not typically found on the starting continent.

Cyizen Crystal

A clear crystal that, when held up to the eye, makes the world appear clearer. Some even say it can reveal things that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Cyizen Crystals are prized by glass makers and engineers for their clarity.

Highland Amber

A rare, but naturally occurring, crystal formation found in high altitudes that extends fire fuel when used in a campfire or portable hearth.

Keepwind

A rare gas, found in Alpine regions, that will slow down spoilage on edibles when packed in an airtight container.

Leatherfish

An ocean bottom fish found in the waters of far off shores. The skin produces a mottled leather that is both waterproof and insulating against the cold.

Pinebuck Acid

A mild acid extracted from a species of pine tree that grows in the Taiga. Can be used for cooking, cleaning, and repair.

Rock Fruit

A subterranean vine that produces fruit with a hard, gray rind. When broken open, it reveals translucent red flesh around a dense, pit-like seed. The flesh is sweet, tart, and slightly acidic, while the seed produces a sticky, sap-like fluid that can be used for making plant-based soaps and glues.

Rose Blood

Sap from a carnivorous, tropical breed of flower that is more like a medium-sized tree than a bush, with a sweet smell and blooms that look similar to a rose. The sap is deep red and viscous, like blood. It has venom-fighting properties and is sought after for high-end antidotes. Can be eaten raw to provide some venom resistance (beforehand) or reduce effect (afterward).

Sweetroot Flowers

A handful of white, spade-shaped petals from the flower of a rare rhizoidal plant found growing along the waterways of the Taiga. Sweetroot blooms only during the Longest Night, making their flowers very rare. The petals smell faintly sweet, like syrup, and when eaten have a sweet, but sharp, taste - almost like anise. Used in alchemy, Sweetroot flowers are known for their invigorating properties, but they must be properly prepared before consuming, as they will make most tribes ill when eaten raw.
