No there will absolutely not be voip in Chronicles of Elyria.

Feel free to give this link a read

Tldr, you can assume 99.99% chance that any VOIP inside of CoE wont exist. Discord will be The service forvoice chat. Whilst the official CoE discord, and potentially on the kingdom level these servers wont exist due to population concerns, Counties and Duchies discord will definately provide an easy VOIP communication.

Communication IN-game will be equally important, as Discord messages dont count for knowledge mechanics ;D

This is exactly why nobody wants VOIP in game.

or play earrape/cancer though a soundbored

Considering the fact that languages are a big deal in CoE, voice would just ruin it.

No in-game VOIP please.

If Star Citizen allows other companies to use their technology, it would be very wonderful to have FOIP ingame. FOIP is face over ip, it literally maps your irl facial expressions onto your ingame character and synchronizes it with your irl voice.

This would be amazing.

Combine it with haptic suits and the immersion potential reaches phenomenal levels

It's unlikely, but I wouldn't say out of the question if it arises that it's more beneficial in-game than otherwise but given the importance of in-game mechanics that revolve around information it would make it a difficult system to implement in a non game-breaking way. Although proximity voip would be super fun.

There will be no Voip as the AI cant hear/understand voip, and with no voip there is no need for facial tracking ingame. all it would serve to do is slow development

ah, interacting with npcs would be a technological hurdle. However, text to speech (needed for npc to understand) is possible (mycroft, alexa, hey google, etc), it could even be trained using the player's voice. However, it would require an investment into hardware and services specific to voice processing

Or. We could leave it how it is and not have immersion breaking VOIP that they said would NOT be in game.

12/1/2019 6:36:14 AM #14

i don't understand how it is immersion breaking, isn't it the opposite? Reality (immersion) has voice not reading text when communicating face to face. it's much more natural to speak, than it is to type

Feel free to read the prior posts that I have linked above already in my first comment. It’s absolutely immersion breaking and is a topic that has been beaten dead on various occasions by now.
